Family History Training

This week we spent in Salt Lake City being trained on family history! We took the train from Provo to Salt Lake and then transferred to the light rail to arrive at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We spent our days learning from the different departments some of the resources that will be available to help us to effectively carry out our mission when we arrive in Guam. The training was excellent and the trainers were very gracious.

Our group of missionaries...

We were divided into small groups and we were with three other couples. The Lambert's are going to West Virginia, Charleston, the Lund's going to Utah Salt Lake City and Phippen's and they are going to Arizona Tucson. We will be spending this week with them learning more about the missions we have been called to. The two people on each end were our Trainers.

Entering the Missionary Training Center

On Monday morning August 3, 2015 Ashley, Tammy and girls drove us to the MTC. It was sad to say goodbye but exciting to start new adventures. The first few hours were spent checking in and settling in to our home for the next ten days. We met about 120 missionaries going to various states and countries around the world.

The trip to training...

We left Fargo, ND on Tuesday, July 28 to start our trek to the Missionary Training Center (MTC). We stopped in Yellowstone to see Old Faithful! Art had never been there, so we decided to take a detour to see it. The drive was beautiful going from Montana and down through the park. We then met my cousin at her cabin in Island Park, Idaho. It was fun to visit with them! They had recently returned from a mission to Nauvoo, Illinois. We continued our trip to Pocatello to see more relatives before we met out daughter and her family in Utah. We spent two days with her and then our dear friend Tammy from Colorado flew out to spend time with us and to drive back to Nevada with Ashley and her two girls. Eric had to return to start his second year in medical school.

Saying good bye.....

On July 21, 2015 we had a church activity to welcome all the new families and say good bye to our friends. It was sad to say good bye, but this mission is something we have wanted to do for many years.
